Good Vibrations

Joe Miranda September 11, 2011

Guitar packages like jazz guitar packages are a good thing for anyone thing to have or add to their collection of electric guitars. Similar to acoustic guitars that make use of a sound hole that gives off vibrations when you play it, the jazz guitar has two “f” holes that on it’s hollow body structure that do the same thing.

The sound is not that familiar twang you get from solid body electric guitars, but rather a soft amplified one that is unlike the solid body. Now I’m not saying to throw away your electric guitars in favor of jazz guitars, I’m saying there is room for both of them.

Bass Player At Heart

Joe Miranda September 6, 2011

I have been playing bass guitars for mor than forty years, maybe that is why I do so many blogs about the bass.

I have played cheap bass guitars as well as expensive ones, and I like them all equally. I prefer the jazz style bass guitar but do switch off to the precision style at times. I sometimes have been known to play my Beatle bass knock off made by Glen Burton Guitars which is an exact copy of the one used by Paul McCartney. I like it because it has a softer sound because it is built on a hollow body and is extremely light weight. I also use a hollow body bass guitar, much like the ES series jazz guitars made by Gibson.

When you are starting to play any of the guitars, whether it be bass guitars, electric or acoustic guitars you are preoccupied with trying to play the right notes. In fact you are so preoccupied even if you play the right notes it sounds choppy and wrong.

What you need to do while playing your guitar made by New York Pro Guitars is listen to the music, even if it means playing an occasional wrong note. When I say listen to the music, I mean play like you are a member of the band and are on stage. What I have found is, especially when learning a new song, you are trying so hard to learn it that you lose sight of the song itself, but if you listen to the song and feel it, your music will sound more fluid.

How Much Is Enough

Joe Miranda August 17, 2011

Music is a very personal thing. Whether you are listening to it, or playing it using cheap electric guitars or high end guitars it is all a matter of taste, and sometimes economics. I bring up economics because most of us are not rock stars who can afford the best electric guitar packages that money can buy.

You need to assess the kind of playing that you will be doing. Some of us might be playing weekend gigs, and then there are some who play guitar just for themselves. If you weekend gigs or special occasions you might want to think about using an 80w guitar amplifier, if you just play for your own enjoyment you will find a 20w guitar amplifier is plenty enough for you.

Sound Investments

Joe Miranda July 5, 2011

Learning how to play either electric guitars, or bass guitars is a sound decision. The purchase of your guitar is the next big decision in your musical career that you must make.

Some of the biggest considerations you need to determine are, would you like to play in a band and make money at it, the nest is what is your financial situation. There are a lot of guitar manufacturers out there, some make cheap electric guitars, while make more expensive models. Take note though those same companies that make expensive guitars also make a line of cheap guitars. There are some people that will swear by them but you are paying for the same cheap electric guitar as a lesser manufacturer but with an expensive name on it.

Strings

Joe Miranda June 21, 2011

Electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, where would they all be without strings. They would be unable to make a sound, that’s where they would be. That’s why keeping the strings on your guitars clean,  and changing them when regularly is so important.

Cleaning can be done easily when you clean the body of you guitar, using the guitar polish and rag you received with guitar packages that include polish and tags. When it does come time to change guitar strings it is important to remember because of the tension on the neck only  change one string at a time. If you own an acoustic guitar it wouldn’t hurt to have an extra pin or two around. The pins are what keeps the guitar strings in place on acoustic guitars.

Decorating With Guitars

Joe Miranda June 18, 2011

My last blog I spoke about my addiction for acquiring bass guitars, as well as electric guitars and acoustic guitars. This blog is not to justify my obsession, but to bring light to the whole guitar world.

In my forty some odd years of playing bass guitar in various bands I have made quite a few friends. Of them I can truly say that all of them had the same addiction that I did. There is something about owning electric guitars that makes you want to own more than one. By that I mean owning four, five, six or more guitars. Sometimes the addiction goes even further that six.

It is one thing to collect guitars when you play, but another to collect them when you don’t. I know of several people who own several of each electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and bass guitars, not to play but for decorations. They love the look of them so much they have them scattered about their house as decorations. Now that is an addiction.

Guitar Junkie

Joe Miranda June 17, 2011

At this stage of my life I don’t smoke, drink, carry on with other women, or do drugs, at least not any more. I do have one vise that I have not been able to conquer and that is I collect guitars.

Acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass guitars, it doesn’t matter I have them all, although I prefer bass guitars. I do own more than one guitar amplifier and bass amplifier, so I guess you can say I collect them too. I own six bass guitars, three acoustic guitars, and three electric guitars, along with two bass amplifiers, and two guitar amplifiers.

When it comes to guitar manufacturers I don’t discriminate, I own guitars made by Fender, New York Pro guitars, Stadium guitars, Glen Burton guitars, and Johnson guitars. I have found the cheap electric guitars play just fine.

Playing Is Believing

Joe Miranda June 8, 2011

Don’t you just love it when you get advise from someone, and that advise is wrong. Unfortunately it happens all the time. There are times when you must listen to yourself, even if it means going against others.

I hate it when someone either tells you or writes a review on what they would call cheap electric guitars and that review is so far from the truth it is not funny. There are many knock off companies that make electric guitars, bass guitars, and acoustic guitars, New York Pro Guitars, Stadium guitars and Glen Burton guitars are just a few. Some reviews would make you believe that these are not well made guitars when the opposite is actually true. The finish on these guitars and the action is really quite good, but because they don’t cost thousands, and have a top name on them that makes them cheap, according to some. I get quite a number of calls from people who can’t believe how good they are when they get them.

Things Of Beauty

Joe Miranda May 22, 2011

Have you ever looked at electric guitars? How about acoustic guitars? Along with being engineered to optimal sound, have you noticed just how beautiful and elegant their overall design is?

Their beauty even extends beyond their obvious curvy shapes. With the help of transparent stains the wood grain pops through the lacquer finish. If your one of those people who prefer colors you will find many styles of electric guitars in solid colors, as well as metallic colors.

Many acoustic guitars have inlay work that is to die for. Acoustics guitars have what is called binding, which can be found between the edge of the top of the guitar and the side. To find some of these guitars, electric or acoustic in spectacular colors and finishes you won’t have to plunk down your life savings, they can be found in cheap electric guitars and cheap bass guitars.
