Practicing With Songs

Joe Miranda July 3, 2010

Learning how to play bass guitars or electric guitars is a terrific thing, providing you can keep you level of focus high enough to keep your interest. When practicing it’s very to practice your scales, if for nothing else it keeps your fingers nimble and loose. When practicing the conventional way it’s easy to lose your focus, and thus lose your interest.

Anybody wanting to learn guitar today has a big advantage over the days when I learned, thanks to the Internet. Years back all you had to study from is your music book, you know the one with the boring lessons along with the boring songs. Using a lesson plan is a good thing but sometimes you need a little bit more, so how about practicing with one of your favorite songs. So if you like Lynyrd Skynyrd look up one of their songs using Tabs, find the song on You Tube if you don’t already have it in your collection, and play along with it. You just might surprise yourself with how far you have come playing guitar.

I hope you like the title for this blog because I think it is quite funny too. All to often I either hear it or read it that just because some electric guitars aren’t made by Fender or Gibson they are considered cheap electric guitars and are no good.

Would you like to know what makes them cheap electric guitars, the price. That’s right I said the price. First of all, not everybody has thousands of dollars to spend on a high end electric guitar, second of all, have you checked out the quality of the knock-off brands guitars, they just might surprise you. These so called cheap electric guitars range in price and the higher price you are willing to spend will get you an electric guitar with a finish that’s just as good as those top brands, in fact they are so good some people take this cheaper guitar and fit if with pick-ups, and volume controls of a Fender, for just a fraction of what it would cost you coould wind up with a cheap electric guitar with that sounds like you paid thousands.

It’s Easy To Get Hooked

Joe Miranda June 29, 2010

Electric guitars are wonderful instruments to learn to play. As I wrote in my last blog many people who play guitar often own more than, as a matter of fact they often own four, five, six, and sometimes more guitars.

Sometimes a guitar owner will mix in with his collection of electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and bass guitars, that’s when it happens. After playing guitar for a while they pick up the bass guitar and find themselves hooked. Electric guitars in music are used to play the chords of the song if you are a rhythm guitarist, however this can get monotonous. Bass guitars are great to learn and play because you’re not locked in to playing one thing. Depending upon you level of skill you can either play the root note or play the chords of the song (one note at a time). Playing bass guitar you will find chord progressions can be played differently, depending on the song. Yes it’s easy to get hooked on playing bass guitar, pick one up and find out for yourself.

Your Not Alone

Joe Miranda June 28, 2010

Do you play an electric guitar? Do you play a bass guitar? If you answered yes to either of these questions, do you own more than one electric guitar or bass guitar?

If you answered yes to the last question you will find yourself among the majority. I don’t know why, but owning electric guitars by the handful is a pretty common thing. Playing guitar if fun, owning guitars is addicting. Many people that play have the electric guitar they started with and have added to it different style electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and even bass guitars, yes that’s right I said bass guitars. It’s not uncommon for someone who plays guitar to acquire a bass guitar.

If you find yourself owning just one guitar my words to you are “Let’s get with it” you have a lot of catching up to do.

Good Bad and Ugly

Joe Miranda June 26, 2010

Practicing bass guitar which is what I was trained on since I was a teenager, is no different than someone playing and electric guitar, or even acoustic guitar. I have found through the years that playing guitar is a lot like life itself, you have good days, bad days, and days that are down right ugly.

For me I’m happy to say at least to date that most days are good days. I define good days as days that I not only listen to the music I am playing, but I also feel the music. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I don’t have bad days because I do. For me a bad day is one that I am listening to the music but not necessarily feeling it. Of course life wouldn’t be complete without those ugly days, you know the ones, for me it is the ones I don’t hear or feel the music, those are the days my practice sessions are very short.

If I find myself having a few of those ugly days in a row I will try changing something like using a different bass amplifier or anything else that  would give me new bass guitar packages that would change my sound and increase my awareness.

It Starts With A Guitar

Joe Miranda June 24, 2010

Stratocasters, telecasters, SG, LP, jazz, these are just a few of the better known styles of electric guitars. Precision, jazz, LP, and violin or “Beatle Bass” are just a few styles of bass guitars.

After you have chosen what style of bass, or electric guitars it is time to team it up with the bass amplifiers or guitar amplifiers that are available. Most people wold stop there thinking they have everything they need, but the guitar and amp is just the beginning of what you need.

When you were purchasing your guitar did you think about how you would transport it from one place to another, or if you were playing it and wanted to set it down somewhere, without a stand where would you put it. How about tuning your new guitar, without a tuner how would you go about that. How about an elementary thing like a guitar strap, would you think about picking one up. These things and more are why you should be looking for either electric guitar packages, or bass guitar packages.

Bass Guitar Ways

Joe Miranda June 22, 2010

Bass guitars are God’s gift to the music world. Having a slightly larger and heavier body, and a longer neck compared to an electric guitar it produces a sound one octave lower than a guitar.

Mostly played with the fingers or thumb it encompasses many different styles of playing, slapping, tapping, plucking or even thumping. It is produced mostly in 4, 5, and 6 string although I have seen it with more strings. It is used in any music genre you can think of rock, country, metal, jazz and reggae.

Playing bass guitars can be as simple as playing the root note of each chord, or to make it more interesting you can by playing the root and fifth note in the cord, or what is referred to as a walking bass. The great thing about playing bass is that it is up to you and your skill level what you play.

Family Ties

Joe Miranda June 20, 2010

Playing electric guitar has been one of the best experiences of my life. I not only learned something that I can use my entire life, I also learned something that has inspired my daughters to learn.

Bass guitars, electric guitars, or even acoustic guitars are symbols of our family having fun together. It doesn’t have to have that polished sound to it, we’re not professionals, it just has to make you feel good. We share each others music which brings their music into my life, and likewise they get to share my music, which they have found to be pretty good.

The family rewards from playing guitar outway any bad times that families usually experience, I encourage you to start a family tradition of playing electric guitars to enhance your family life.

Singers VS Guitarists

Joe Miranda June 9, 2010

I have played bass guitar since the mid 60’s, and been a lead singer in several of the bands I have been in. Now I’m not saying that I’m a terrific singer because I am not, but I guess I could carry a tune better than most of the guys in the bands that’s why I was always elected as lead singer.

It is much more versatile to be a good guitarist rather than a good singer. Can you imagine someone like Frank Sinatra, or Dean Martin singing something like “The Pinball Wizard”, or “Dirty Deeds”, that would be like Roger Daltrey trying to sing “That’s Amore”, or Robert Plant singing “My Way”. The point I’m trying to make is they are all great singers in their own music genres but I don’t think they could make it crossing over to their opposite genres.

Whether you play custom or cheap electric guitar packages you have the ability to play any music genre, you may prefer to play rock or country but playing electric guitar all the music genres are at your finger tips.

Affordable Guitars

Joe Miranda June 7, 2010

Do you like things are made well, look good, and have a cheap price? Would you believe me if I told you can get a cheap electric guitar package at an affordable price?

The quality of the unknown or lesser known brand name electric guitars is really quite impressive. The finish, especially on some of the higher priced electric guitars can equal that of a guitar made by one of the top companies. The action on these same guitars again can rival their more expensive compatition.

When you factor in all the good qualities, then realize you can purchase that lesser known guitar in an electric guitar package, that will not only give you the guitar amplifier of your choice, but it will als0 give you the other guitar accessories you will need, you agree affordable guitars are possible.
