When you’re new to playing electric guitars or bass guitars you have a tendency to take everything at face value. When you are trying to play a song that you have heard played on electric guitars you want to duplicate that song.
To me one of the things I like most about music in general is that nothing is cast in stone, nothing says you can’t play that song on an acoustic guitar at a different tempo, or change it up on your new guitar made by New York Pro Guitars. Take a look at what Eric Clapton did with the song ”Layla” that he made popular with the band Derek And The Dominos. The original song was fast pace electric guitar masterpiece which he later slowed down and played as a ballad using an acoustic guitar.
Hollow body electric guitars are in other words called semi-acoustic guitars. Don’t confuse this guitar with an electric acoustic guitar they are not the same.
Electric acoustic guitars are acoustic guitars with microphones to amplify the vibration, they can be identified by the large sound hole. A hollow body guitar is a guitar that has electronic pick-ups just like a solid body guitar along with a sound box like an acoustic guitar. With this type of guitar you can get a tone that you can’t get from a solid body electric guitar.
You might recognize these guitars by their familiar “F” holes in the body like the Memphis Jazz guitar made by Glen Burton Guitars. Although they can be played alone they are meant to be played electronically, through a guitar amplifier. When playing a hollow body guitar you must pay attention to the volume, they are prone towards feedback because of the “F” holes teamed with the electronic pick-ups.
Buddy Holly brought us to a new music genre with an electric guitar a stand-up bass and a set of drums. At the time no one believed you could have a complete sound with just three pieces, but he proved them wrong.
Since then the heart of any rock and roll band is the electric guitars. Since then the electric guitar packages as I like to call them have been used in numerous configurations. The double bass was replaced by bass guitars, and as far as guitars I have seen bands that incorporate tw0, three, and four guitars, check out The Doobie Brothers or The Eagles for example.
Show me a band that doesn’t utilize electric guitars in it and I will show you a band that is not a rock and roll band.
Back in March I wrote a piece about this deadly disease, well it’s back. Guitaritis strikes without warning but with the help of electric guitar packages it does not sap all your cash like expensive guitars do.
It can also be classified as an addiction since it goes after established as well as new people who play electric guitars. Names like New York Pro Guitars, Stadium Guitars, and Glen Burton Guitars seem to call out to you with their high quality and low prices.
However you not afflicted until you have purchased your first electric guitar. After a while you feel something tugging at you. It seems to squeeze you until you can’t resist anymore, and when you do you find yourself with multiple electric guitars.
There is no known cure for this disease, some professionals have up to seventy-five electric guitars bass guitars and acoustic guitars. Luckily for us there is such medication as cheap electric guitars and cheap bass guitars to ease our pain and suffering.
Acoustic electric guitars are incredible instruments, the sound you get from this kind of guitar is a sound that you can’t achieve from a solid body electric guitar. They are essentially an acoustic guitar with amplification.
This is done by incorporating a little microphone, normally at the bridge. It is able to amplify the vibrations made by the hollow body, something the pick-ups of a solid body electric guitars can’t do. The electrified sound that you hear is sent to a preamplifier before it goes to a guitar amplifier, this is done by a built-in equalizer with volume and tone controls. These equalizers can control up to six frequencies.
Acoustic guitar packages give you an acoustic guitar along with an a guitar amplifier, and all the additional guitar accessories you might need. Keep one thing in mind even with cheap electric guitars you get what you pay for, meaning the more money you spend the better the equalizer. Along with the better equalizer you will find the inlay work will be more detailed. When you compare acoustic guitars to electric guitars you will see for yourself the added workmanship in the bindings and inlays.
Has anybody else besides me ever noticed the beauty and many uses for wood? It is sometimes disguised with color of a covering of some kind but when you look around it is with every single day.
The homes we live in are made of wood because of its strength, the kitchen cabinets are made of wood because of its strength and beauty. The furniture you sit on is also made of wood, even if it is an upholstered chair (the frame is made of wood).
Cheap electric guitars, cheap bass guitars share the same thing as expensive guitars do, you guessed it they too are made of wood. The body of your electric guitar can be made of numerous species of wood from alder, mahogany, and ash for the body, just to name a few, to maple and rosewood for the neck. Wood can be cutout to form any shape imaginable.
You must admit today’s economy stinks, with the dollar shrinking the way it is there is not much left over for some of the pleasures in life. I guess what really irks me is when I see retail stores as well as on line stores with their sales adds boasting 20% to 50% savings on certain items. My take on that is, if you can afford to mark something down 50% than your mark-up was too much initially.
When your in the market for electric guitars and bass guitars the same thing holds true. Take your time and look around for the best value. Don’t be fooled if you do see the same electric guitar priced a little higher as you often see when you look at electric guitar packages. The reason for this is their are items included in those guitar packages that make it seem higher but when you price everything out it winds up being cheaper.
Who is The best guitarist around today? My answer to that is that depends on the kind of music that you are into. I don’t mean to be so vague about it but when you see peoples responses some agree and some go in the direction of the music they like. The guitar packages that each use doesn’t even come into play as just like the answers they vary greatly.
Angus Young of AC/DC is one name that seems to come up often, and why not. His electric guitar solos have kept our interest for more than thirty years, not to mention his patented duck walk. For my money you can’t beat Jeff Beck, and Eric Clapton. They have been leaders when it comes to the art of playing guitar. I would also include Lindsey Buckingham in my list, with his finger-picking style of play that makes him one of the best.
The granddaddy of them all for me is Mark Knopfler. His achievements in music speak for them selves. He has played guitar with other artists such as Eric Clapton, and Chet Atkins (another one of my all time favorite guitar players). He has several honorary doctorates, and is 27th on the list of greatest guitarists of all time. He owns 70 guitars and is known to use several electric guitar packages to change his sound for each song.
Let’s face it, in these hard economic times everyone could use a bit more cash. It’s not as hard as you think. Did you ever think of taking your cheap electric guitars and playing special occasions? Local bars are always looking for live entertainment, why not let it be you.
Develop the best sound you can and you will get jobs. No one is going to care if the electric guitar you are playing is made by Fender or Glen Burton Guitars. If your sound is what they are looking for you will get the job. Remember, don’t be a perfectionist, most people can’t tell the difference.
The 1950′s and 1960′s was an exciting time for rock and roll if you were a fan of electric guitar and bass guitars like I was. There were all kinds of band configurations after Buddy Holly led the way with one electric guitar, a double bass, and a drummer. Most of the bands that followed consisted of two electric guitars, one bass guitar, and a drummer, and if the band didn’t provide their own vocals from their guitarists they had an extra person who just provided vocals.
There were some bands in those early days that didn’t rely on vocals at all, they were strictly instrumental. The Fireballs pretty much got things started and paved way for countless other bands like Booker T and the MGs, The Shadows, and my personal favorite The Ventures. The guitar packages for these bands was pretty simple utilizing two electric guitars, a bass guitar, and a drummer, and a few like Booker T using keyboards.
There was no flashy front-man for any of these bands so the music had to be catchy enough to get your attention. The Ventures had songs like “Walk Don’t Run and Hawaii Five-O, yes that’s right they did the theme song from the original TV show. If you have never heard any of these songs try one out and I’m sure you will be hooked.
