Sensitized Strings

Joe Miranda June 27, 2011

Besides the creativity of the individual artist playing the guitar solo you need exceptional electric guitar packages. By this I don’t mean you have to have state of the art equipment, cheap electric guitars and guitar amplifiers will do nicely.

Have you ever noticed Angus Young of AC/DC when he goes into one of his guitar solos, he is visibly only using his left hand to finger the notes. Why is this you ask, because his guitar amplifier is cranked up so high the strings are highly sensitized where all you have to do is do what he does and forger about your other hand with the pick.

The next time you are practicing try cranking up the volume of your amplifier, and if you practicing at home make sure you are all alone. Try being a little creative.

Guitars Are Timeless

Joe Miranda October 16, 2010

Did you know that guitars are thousands of years old and are used in almost every kind of music. You will find that the guitar is the primary instrument in everything from rock, bluegrass. jazz, country, reggae, flamenco, and soul.

Acoustic guitars are hollow body guitars and have been around thousands of years. The sound is produced by the vibration when the strings are strummed which then resonates through the body and comes out the sound hole. By adding a pickup to an acoustic guitar it can then be played through an amplifier. You can find everything you need in acoustic guitar packages.

Electric guitars have been around since the 1930′s and give the guitar an electric sound which makes it the perfect instrument for rock. Like the acoustic guitar, the electric guitar can also be found in electric guitar packages.

Acoustic Sense

Joe Miranda August 3, 2010

Some people might argue the fact of making available something called acoustic guitar packages. Their argument consists of the speculation why do you need an acoustic guitar package on an acoustic guitar that can be played without and amplifier.

My answer to this is that to me, it makes more sense to purchase a package than just an acoustic guitar. Having an amplifier gives this guitar more versatility, practicing is simple because of the fact you don’t have to plugged in to play like you would with an electric guitar, and likewise if you have a gig and need to be heard you need the assistance of an amplifier. An added benefit to owning an additional guitar amplifier is you can always use one as a pre-amp.

You Don’t Know You Have One

Joe Miranda May 25, 2010

Whether you realize it or not everyone who plays an electric guitar and has a guitar amplifier has got an electric guitar package. Everything you have acquired that concerns your guitar is part of your package.

It’s quite common to have purchase everything separately, especially if your in my age category where there was no such thing as purchasing a complete guitar package. Musical instruments have come a long way since the 60′s, the color choices are many, as is the amplifier selection, tuners and the rest of the things you might need. With either bass guitar, acoustic guitar, or electric guitar packages it’s possible to get everything you need at the same time.

Creating Your Own Sound

Joe Miranda May 24, 2010

Most professional musicians through the years have developed their own sound with the help of their electric guitar packages. They try different things until they find the particular sound they are looking for.

Of course professionals have a bit more money to spend on their instruments than you or I do, but to some degree we can still learn from them, and do the same things they do.

With the price of knock offs you can own several types, and makes of electric guitars. Don’t overlook purchasing a second or third electric guitar package, this will not only give you another type of guitar it can also give you a different size guitar amplifier. By using the lesser amplifier as a pre-amp it can expand the many sounds that you can achieve.

Make It Personal

Joe Miranda May 11, 2010

Do you think  custom electric guitar package are only available to professional guitar players. What if I told you that with a little imagination you turn cheap electric guitars into your own custom guitars.

The original lead guitarist for Chicago was Terry Kath, he played a Fender Telecaster electric guitar however,  he customized it by having one pick-up from Fender, and for the second pick-up he installed a Gibson pick-up. He did this so he could switch between the sound of a Fender and Gibson guitar.

Customization can mean allot of things, it could be putting a certain electric guitar with a different amplifier to some, while to others it can mean something totally different.

Mistaken Identity

Joe Miranda April 18, 2010

If you are looking to purchase a guitar and you are a first time buyer you need to understand the different types of guitars. Knowing the difference between guitars can save you a lot of time and effort.

Electric guitars usually made of wood though some are made of acrylic are made from one piece of wood thus being called solid body guitars and come in different shapes and styles, stratocaster, telecaster etc. Acoustic guitars  have a sound hole which makes them playable without an amplifier.

Two other types of guitars that may seem the same but are really quite different are acoustic-electric guitars and semi-acoustic guitars. Acoustic electric guitars are an acoustic guitar fitted with a special pick-up in the bridge and an on board equalizer. A semi acoustic guitar is an electric guitar with a sound hole, these guitars are also called hollow-body electric guitars.

Guitar Week

Joe Miranda April 2, 2010

We here in the United States enjoy individual days and weeks for a lot of different occasions, secretaries, earth week just to name a few. I think there should be a national guitar week.

Sunday can be electric guitar day, Monday can be acoustic guitar day, with Tuesday being bass guitar day. Wednesday and Thursday can be used as amplifier day, with one being for guitar amplifiers and the other being for bass amplifiers. Friday and Saturday would be designated as the jam day. On this day everyone has to play guitar with a friend or friends.

This is all hypothetical but just think how nice it would be with one whole week set aside for music. Who knows if it is real popular it can expand to two weeks or even a month dedicated to guitars.

Excersizing Your Amp

Joe Miranda February 23, 2010

Were nearing the end of the winter, this means the end of the cold weather, and the beginning of springtime and the of warmer temperatures it brings.

This is a great time to start up the barbecue, invite some of your along with their electric guitar packages and set up outside. Playing outside your sound is swallowed up by the outdoors so it’s a great time for you to crank up your guitar amplifier to see what it’s made of.

When your playing in your living room or even your basement the sound travels and you have a tendency to hold back, but playing outside all bets are off, you  and your friends can crank up the volume and really have some fun.

If the weather is overcast or is raining try setting up in your garage with the doors open, you’ll not only impress yourself with your sound, you will also impress your neighbors and who knows you might even be asked to play at their barbecues.

My Bass Needs More Power

Joe Miranda January 29, 2010

You have already purchased a bass guitar package and have had it for a while. You’ve practiced everyday and have become fairly proficient at it and are ready to take the next step, however you’re not sure what whether to try another style of bass guitar, or get a bigger bass amplifier.

Why choose, consider the advantages of having both another style bass guitar, and another amplifier. With the right bass guitar package you can have both. As with electric guitars all bass guitars don’t play alike, or sound alike. Having another style bass guitar gives you the flexibility to experiment between the two when your playing a song, you might like the sound of one over the other, or the feel of one over the other.

When looking for another bass guitar package look for one with a different size amplifier than that of the one you already have. Again this gives you more flexibility, let’s say you already had a 10w bass amplifier and have now picked up a 20w amplifier, you can either play either bass guitar with either of the amps or you can treat one amp as a pre-amp. This is achieved by running one cable from your bass to the first amp (lets say the 10w bass amp), next you would run another cable from the headphones jack of the first amp to the input jack of the second amp. (by the way the second cable you get along with the 2nd bass package).  Don’t be afraid to experiment with it that’s how the professionals get their sound.
