Finger-Picking Favorites For The Acoustic

Joe Miranda September 10, 2011

Lindsey Buckingham is one of the premier guitarists of today. He is known mostly as the guitarist for Fleetwood Mac, and has a distinctive finger-picking style. This is demonstrated on their song “Landslide”. It is a song that although sounding difficult it makes use of basic finger-picking patterns.

“Time In A Bottle” is another example of a great finger-picking song. It is a song by the late Jim Croce that forces you to use your pinky. That might not sound like much but many new acoustic and electric guitar players have trouble using their pinky when they play.

These songs can be played on electric guitars but sound much better on acoustic guitars like the ones made by New York Pro Guitars. If you don’t already own an acoustic guitar maybe these songs will get you off the fence.

Inspiring Acts

Joe Miranda August 22, 2011

1955 with his acoustic guitar in hand Elvis Presley changed the way music would be looked at from that day on. Following Elvis their were the Everly Brothers, with their two black acoustic guitars and ground breaking harmonies.

Next up it would be Buddy Holly, armed with an electric guitar and a sound in his head that could only be reproduced through his music. Buddy’s influence brought on what is today as the British invasion. The electric guitar packages were plenty with The Beatles and the Rolling Stones both recording some of Buddy’s songs, and The Hollies who got there name from Buddy Holly.

All of these acts and more have shaped who we are in music today. The early part made us sit up and take notice, while the second part made us want to get involved by purchasing electric guitars and bass guitar packages and starting our own bands.

Make Room For Acoustics

Joe Miranda August 21, 2011

Acoustic guitars are over-shadowed by electric guitars, that’s because most rock songs highlight electric guitars as the main instrument. Discover the world of acoustic guitars and the many songs and artists that have played them.

Through the years there have been plenty of solo artists and bands that have featured acoustic guitars. Going back to the late 1950′s you could name Elvis Presley, Rick Nelson, and The Everly Brothers just to name a few. Of the solo artists the late Jim Croce and John Denver are ones that come to mind.

Acoustic guitars bring a soft tone to your music unlike the familiar twang your used to from electric guitars. They can be played by strumming or finger-picking. Even if you play electric, don’t you think it’s about time you sampled an acoustic guitar or acoustic guitar packages.

Versatile Guitar

Joe Miranda June 26, 2011

The acoustic guitar can be played with a guitar amplifier or without one, this makes it a very versatile guitar. This is accomplished by the sound hole in the base of the guitar.

Acoustic guitars are often overlooked, especially by someone just getting into playing guitar, maybe because they are not as sleek looking as electric guitars. Maybe it’s because mainstream rock and roll relies on electric guitars for that rock sound. The truth is there is room in rock for electrics and acoustic guitars as each one gives off an entirely different sound. Everyone who plays guitar should have one of each if they want their sound to grow.

Strings

Joe Miranda June 21, 2011

Electric guitars, acoustic guitars, bass guitars, where would they all be without strings. They would be unable to make a sound, that’s where they would be. That’s why keeping the strings on your guitars clean,  and changing them when regularly is so important.

Cleaning can be done easily when you clean the body of you guitar, using the guitar polish and rag you received with guitar packages that include polish and tags. When it does come time to change guitar strings it is important to remember because of the tension on the neck only  change one string at a time. If you own an acoustic guitar it wouldn’t hurt to have an extra pin or two around. The pins are what keeps the guitar strings in place on acoustic guitars.

Guitar Dilemma

Joe Miranda May 25, 2011

Do you own an a guitar package? It can be either an electric guitar package, acoustic guitar package, or a bass guitar package. Do you find yourself wanting a newer different style guitar, maybe an acoustic guitar to go with your electric guitar. Maybe you find yourself wanting more power.

What would you say if I told you that with the help of cheap electric guitars you can have both. The improvements made on cheap electric guitars will give you a great sound, and for very little money compared to those expensive brands. You will find guitar packages in most styles and colors. Something to think about, instead of spending a lot of money on just an amplifier by purchasing a bigger guitar amplifier at a higher cost, find yourself affordable electric guitar packages with a smaller amplifier

To Be A Pro

Joe Miranda May 20, 2011

There seems to be a misconception when it comes to the art of playing electric guitars as to what it takes to be a pro. You don’t have to have a recording contract to be a pro, all it takes is to play your bass guitar somewhere you get paid for playing.

Just because you started out with cheap electric guitars and electric guitar packages to save money, and you play private parties or weddings doesn’t mean that you are not a pro. The truth is as long as you get paid for what you do you are considered a professional.

Just in case you are still new to music and don’t think you are good enough to even play at parties, remember most people don’t care if you are the best at finger-picking that acoustic guitar. People are going to listen to your band as a whole and if you have a good sound they will like you.

Reflections

Joe Miranda May 13, 2011

Learning to play the guitar today is easier than ever. You can take your electric guitar and take private lessons, or take take your acoustic guitar into whatever high school you are attending because they are probably teaching guitar there. Let’s not forget the Internet, there are many courses out there that will teach you how to play electric guitars in many different styles.

That’s a bit different from the 1960′s, the only thing available to us at the time was private lessons, or learning on your own. It’s just like buying the guitars, with the exception of traveling into Manhattan from Queens where I grew up the only thing available to us was the cheap electric guitars from your local music store, if you had one. There were no electric guitar packages to help us out, we had to find out the hard way that you needed a case to carry it around, or a stand to put it down when you practicing.

Well Rounded Guitarist

Joe Miranda May 12, 2011

Playing guitar well, whether it is an electric guitar or acoustic guitar, is an art form that not many people have the patience to learn. Many people while learning to play are so concerned with playing the chords correctly, or getting that guitar solo just right they overlook a very important thing.

Learning guitar from a book is a great vehicle for teaching you everything you need to know about playing electric guitars, what it can’t teach you is the correct way to feel each song and play it accordingly. Knowing all the chords and being able to play your favorite solo is great, but if you play everything with the same strumming or picking style it’s all going to sound the same.

Remember a great sound can be achieved with cheap electric guitars from affordable electric guitar packages, you don’t have to break the bank to have a great sound, that’s in you.

Walking The Bass

Joe Miranda May 9, 2011

Most people want to play either an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar, I think that is because it is easier to relate to the electric guitars solos. I always preferred playing bass guitar because when it came to playing there were a lot more options.

Playing the bass guitar can be as simple as playing root notes, or as involved as you want it to be. One thing I would like to point out is there is no substitute for learning the basics for any type guitar you wish to play. A common thing I see a lot is new people playing bass guitars using tabs to learn a song, and not knowing what it is they are actually learning.

While learning bass guitar basics you will study things that will help you understand what you are playing, like a walking bass, and bass runs. A walking bass is something you will find mostly in jazz, however a bass run you will find most everywhere. A bass run can be done in the heat of your performance using various methods you will learn when you learn the basics.

Thanks to bass players like John Paul Jones, John Deacon, Paul McCartney, Tal Wilkenfeld and Geddy Lee just to name a few, the bass guitar is not only known as a back-up instrument. They have brought the art of playing bass to that of a lead instrument, injecting great bass solos into their songs.

Learning basics can be done with cheap bass guitars as well as expensive ones. Bass guitar packages are even better outfitting you with everything you need for your bass playing experience.
