Electric guitars have six strings, bass guitars mostly have four and five strings although they can come in six or more strings. On a guitar the top or thickest string is E string with the other strings being A,D,G,B,E. There is nothing more frustrating than breaking a string while playing a gig, but in just a few steps you can change the string easily.
First you remove the broken string, this is done by unwinding what’s left of the string from the tuning head then popping the pin out of the bridge. Making sure you have the right replacement string thread the new string through the bridge stretching the string towards the neck inserting it into the nut and the eye of the tuning head. Once through the tuning head bend the string sharply to keep it in place, then turn the tuning peg to tighten (be careful not to overtighten). Use wire cutters to cut the excess from the tuning head leaving one to two inches. Use an electronic tuner to tune the string, that’s what the pros do.
