Even if all you can afford are cheap electric guitars it’s easy to achieve some great sounds of you own with a little experimenting. The professionals play using what is called a pre-amp. A pre-amp is nothing more than what it sounds like, an amplified signal that is amplified again. Some expensive amplifiers have this built in to it, but you can achieve the same thing by using the two guitar amplifiers that you received with your electric guitar packages, and plug one into the other while plugging your electric guitar into only one of them. By doing this you are using one of your amplifiers as a pre-amp.
When a song is played by one artist then played by another it is said to be covered. Sometimes artists cover them as the original song was done and sometimes they try changing the song to make it theirs.
Roy Orbison gave us the familiar electric guitar riff in “Oh Pretty Women” played on his jazz guitar only to have Van Halen destroy it with their hard rock version that in my opinion failed miserably. Then there’s songs like “You Keep Me Hangin On” first released by The Supremes then covered by the Vanilla Fudge in a hard rock version that exchanged the electric guitar package of the Funk Brothers who played the music behind The Supremes, with the superb electric guitar solos and moving bass guitar lines From Vanilla Fudge.
New ideas don’t always work but they are worth a try. If you have a local band and have an idea for a song try it, you never know, you might come up with a hit.

What does guitar excellence mean, not much. Playing the electric guitar or bass guitar is different for everyone.
There are countless guitarists who by their own admissions can’t read music. Did you know that B.B. King who they call the king of the blues who plays his custom Gibson 335 electric guitar named Lucille can’t play chords.
Picking up an electric guitar package is the first step, after that the level of knowledge you employ towards playing is up to you. The idea when playing any musical instrument is to have fun. In the case of B.B. King he is considered to be one of the best, even with playing chords which just goes to show it’s not so much what you know, but the feeling you convey while playing that inspires your audience.
There are a few different ways to cover a song originally done by another band. One way is to copy the song exactly the way of the original, the second is to change the song to make it your own.
In my opinion songs that are covered by another band trying to duplicate the original are often done poorly. Van Halen copied Roy Orbison’s “Oh Pretty Women” as a hard rock song with hard electric guitar sounds which to me just doesn’t work. I give them kudos for trying though.
Stevie Wonder took the ballad “For Once In My Life” added the outstanding bass guitar of James Jamerson and an up-tempo and turned it into the most popular version of the song. How about Eric Clapton who covered Layla two times, once as Derek and the Dominos in the original version featuring the dueling electric guitars of Eric Clapton and Duane Allman. He later covered his own song as a an acoustic guitar masterpiece.
If you have an original idea for an arrangement of a song take your electric guitar package and record it, you never know.
There is one essential thing that you need after you have purchase your electric guitar and that is a guitar tuner. If you purchased an electric guitar package, or perhaps an acoustic guitar package or bass guitar package, your fortunate because the guitar package will include a guitar tuner.
The tuning of a electric guitar is really quite simple, just clip the tuner to the guitar head and turn the tuning pegs for each string until the correct note is achieved. Before you start tuning your guitar you might want to check the height of the strings, if you wish to adjust the height let off on the tension and using a screw driver raise or lower the height. After you have adjusted the height and tuned the open string check for intonation. The open string should be the same note as that played at the 12th fret, if it is not let off on the tension and adjust the height of the string again. Repeat all the steps as many times as you need to get your guitar tuned. The whole process may seem tedious but it is well worth it. You will find your guitar will play easier when it is tuned properly.
Growing up and participating in any kind of sports is a good thing, but it has one draw back. As you get older you find it get more difficult to participate until you reach the age you just can’t do it anymore.
Music however is very different, picking up an electric guitar package and playing from an early age is something that you can’t take with you as you grow older. Bass guitar packages as well as electric and acoustic guitar packages if properly maintained will last you a very long time. I have found it to be a challenge, especially since I am older now. Medical reports say taxing your mind is a good thing as you get older, and trying to remember all the songs that I use to play as well as learning new ones everyday is just that, a challenge. I find that if I lay off playing the bass guitar for a while I sometimes have to play a song a few times, because I have forgotten some parts of it.
The one thing that I have as I am getting closer to my sixties is the fact that I can still play, even with arthritis which gets all of us as we get get older. The fact that I can continue to play guitar is something that someone that who played sports can’t say.
From the first moment that you pick up your first electric guitar package there is an excitement that you have about playing your electric guitar. My thought to you is, What do you do after let’s say a few years when the excitement just isn’t there?
That’s actually a hard question to answer because it’s a little different for everybody. One thing you may want to consider is taking a look at the many electric guitar packages that are available that utilize cheap electric guitars like Glen Burton guitars, or New York Pro Guitars. Sometimes a new guitar will spark the interest in playing, just like it did in the beginning. Another thing you can do is challenge yourself with the type of music that you play. What I like to do is hook my I-Pod up to external speakers and play whatever song comes on, whether I know it or not. I also like to put on my favorite classic rock music station and again play along with whatever comes on.
