It Happened One Day

Joe Miranda August 16, 2010

When I first started playing bass guitar I had only one bass guitar. I was perfectly content with the idea of having only one bass guitar, but then it happened. I don’t know when it happened but it happened.

Suddenly I had two bass guitars and to go with those two bass guitars I had two bass amplifiers. I currently own four bass guitars along with three bass amplifiers. The first two bass guitars I purchased separately. I followed each one by obtaining a bass amplifier afterwards. My last one I found this great bass guitar package that had everything I needed. Bass guitar packages didn’t exist when I first started to play but I’m sure glad they exist now.

As far as the title of this blog, yes it is still happening today and it has spread because I now own electric guitar packages along with acoustic guitar packages. Ain’t life wonderful.

It’s In There

Joe Miranda August 13, 2010

Electric guitar packages are a great idea because like the title says, it’s in there. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out, or a seasoned veteran playing an electric guitar what you get with an electric guitar package is everything you need.

Oh by the way if your preference is bass guitar or acoustic guitar don’t feel left out, there are bass guitar packages as well as acoustic guitar packages. Do you want to play guitar, it’s in there. Do want an guitar or bass amplifier, it’s in there, how about a digital tuner, gig bag, and a guitar stand, they are in there too. How about an added bonus of a guitar polish and cloths to keep the appearance of your guitar looking new, it’s also in there.

Good Bad and Ugly

Joe Miranda June 26, 2010

Practicing bass guitar which is what I was trained on since I was a teenager, is no different than someone playing and electric guitar, or even acoustic guitar. I have found through the years that playing guitar is a lot like life itself, you have good days, bad days, and days that are down right ugly.

For me I’m happy to say at least to date that most days are good days. I define good days as days that I not only listen to the music I am playing, but I also feel the music. Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying I don’t have bad days because I do. For me a bad day is one that I am listening to the music but not necessarily feeling it. Of course life wouldn’t be complete without those ugly days, you know the ones, for me it is the ones I don’t hear or feel the music, those are the days my practice sessions are very short.

If I find myself having a few of those ugly days in a row I will try changing something like using a different bass amplifier or anything else that  would give me new bass guitar packages that would change my sound and increase my awareness.

The Troubled Lows

Joe Miranda May 23, 2010

I have played bass guitar since the mid 60’s and I think it is the most exciting instrument to play. For those of you just starting out playing bass there are some things about amplifiers you should know about.

Because of the low frequencies that bass guitars produce bass amplifiers are built differently from guitar amplifiers. The speakers that are used for bass use heavy duty drivers, some professional bass players use a sub-woofer from a PA cabinet paired with the speakers from their bass amplifier to give them more powerful lows. You will also find the construction of the speaker cabinet is larger and more sturdier that that of a guitar amplifier.  Bass amplifiers also have a limiter circuit to stop the main circuitry from overloading and causing damage to the speakers.

Other Peoples Instruments

Joe Miranda May 10, 2010

When I started out in music in that mid 1960’s I purchased my very first bass guitar with the money I made on my paper-route. When it was time to play with other musicians in the neighborhood I found it amazing and sometimes funny to see the custom guitar packages that each guy had put together for themselves.

I had just a standard 4 string bass guitar along with a bass amplifier both being knockoffs, while some guys had Fender guitars teamed with Fender guitar amplifiers. The one thing I remember about jamming with a group of friends, as well as the bands I have been in through the years is that when it comes to music everyone shares information. The knowledge they had accumulated being better musicians than me they past on to me, just as I do with someone of lesser talent than me.

Everything You Need

Joe Miranda May 8, 2010

When you see cheap electric guitar packages it is referring to the price of the electric guitar package not the quality of the instrument itself.  With the help of the Internet finding an affordable guitar packages is easier than ever.

I paid full price for my bass guitar when I purchased it back in the 60’s. I also paid full price for my bass amplifier. All the guitar accessories I picked up along the way, I don’t remember what they were or how much they were. What I do remember is it took a long while to accumulate all the things I really needed.

To reinforce my opening paragraph the Internet has opened up the music world to everybody in the form of cheap electric guitar packages.

Bass Observations

Joe Miranda May 6, 2010

Take a look at any band, the first thing people see is someone at a microphone playing a guitar and singing. Most audiences probably never observe whether he is playing a bass guitar or an electric guitar.

For me when it comes to bass or even guitar I want to know what make and style it is, as well as what sound system is being used. I often ask myself is he playing that bass straight through a bass amplifier, or is he going into a pre-amp first.

Whenever I watch a concert I find it fascinating when a guitarist switches instruments for one song and for me it raises the question, why? I enjoy the quest to find the answers because it forces me to try different thing.

I chose to play bass because of its unique sound, and it is for that reason I am constantly on the looking for new ways to make my better.

Electric Guitar Packages

Joe Miranda May 4, 2010

Are you an advanced guitar player, or maybe someone who is just starting out? No matter what your skill level electric guitar packages are something you need to know about.

When I started playing in the 60’s there was no Internet to keep me informed on what I needed to complete my bass guitar package. I was in my teens when I purchased my first bass guitar and it wasn’t until I got it home that I realized I needed a bass amplifier. After I got my amplifier and could hear what I was playing, I realized I need some kind of a tuner or in those days a pitch pipe.

I guess you see where I’m heading with this. Today everything is available in an electric guitar package, plus if you get the right package you will receive other things you will ultimately need also. So check out some guitar packages, you’ll find they come in a range of prices to cover any budget.

Guitar Week

Joe Miranda April 2, 2010

We here in the United States enjoy individual days and weeks for a lot of different occasions, secretaries, earth week just to name a few. I think there should be a national guitar week.

Sunday can be electric guitar day, Monday can be acoustic guitar day, with Tuesday being bass guitar day. Wednesday and Thursday can be used as amplifier day, with one being for guitar amplifiers and the other being for bass amplifiers. Friday and Saturday would be designated as the jam day. On this day everyone has to play guitar with a friend or friends.

This is all hypothetical but just think how nice it would be with one whole week set aside for music. Who knows if it is real popular it can expand to two weeks or even a month dedicated to guitars.

The Right Amplifier

Joe Miranda March 25, 2010

Getting the right guitar amplifier is as personal as getting the right electric guitar. One of the things you must ask yourself is, Where am I going to be playing. Another question is, How are you going to be using the amp.

If you live in a small apartment, or if you will playing your guitar in your room a 10 watt amplifier with a 6″ speaker is more than enough to deliver a good sound without someone else in the house getting angry with you. If you plan on playing outside the confines of your room, let’s say in a band, you might want to take the next step and get either a 20 or 30 watt guitar amplifier. While the decibels goes up slightly the larger speakers, ( 8″ & 10″ respectively ) will make them sound even louder.

One thing to consider is as you increase the size of your amplifer the weight of it is also going to increaase, this is important because you are the one that will be carrying it around along with your guitar and the rest of your guitar accessories.

As you go up in size the amplifiers will have more features also, like one with a built-in reverb on it. Keep in mind if you play bass guitar you need a bass amplifier. These amplifiers have speakers that are beefed up to handle bass tones.
