Everyone Needs An Idol

Joe Miranda November 19, 2011
If you want to learn how to play electric guitars or bass guitars it helps if you have an idol. Even when it comes to purchasing the bass guitar packages and electric guitar packages you want to play you can use the influence from someone that you admire.

Whether it was coincidence or influence from The Beatles, the early days of rock found the hollow body or semi-acoustic electric guitars used widely. At some point after the use of the stratocaster style electric guitar kind of took over as being the most popular.

For me I am partial to the j-bass and p-bass style, and of course the bass guitar that Paul McCartney made famous the vintage violin bass guitar. I found that having these different style bass guitars, and playing them both personally and on stage, that your sound is broadened by the contrasting sounds.

I chose these bass guitars because of my idols Paul McCartney as stated before, Jim Fielder of Blood Sweet and Tears, and James Jamerson of the Funk Brothers who were the body and soul of the Motown sound of the 1960′s.

Hollow Body Guitars

Joe Miranda October 11, 2011

Hollow body electric guitars are in other words called semi-acoustic guitars. Don’t confuse this guitar with an electric acoustic guitar they are not the same.

Electric acoustic guitars are acoustic guitars with microphones to amplify the vibration, they can be identified by the large sound hole. A hollow body guitar is a guitar that has electronic pick-ups just like a solid body guitar along with a sound box like an acoustic guitar. With this type of guitar you can get a tone that you can’t get from a solid body electric guitar.

You might recognize these guitars by their familiar “F” holes in the body like the Memphis Jazz guitar made by Glen Burton Guitars. Although they can be played alone they are meant to be played electronically, through a guitar amplifier. When playing a hollow body guitar you must pay attention to the volume, they are prone towards feedback because of the “F” holes teamed with the electronic pick-ups.

The Acoustic Electric Guitar

Joe Miranda October 6, 2011

Acoustic electric guitars are incredible instruments, the sound you get from this kind of guitar is a sound that you can’t achieve from a solid body electric guitar. They are essentially an acoustic guitar with amplification.

This is done by incorporating a little microphone, normally at the bridge. It is able to amplify the vibrations made by the hollow body, something the pick-ups of a solid body electric guitars can’t do. The electrified sound that you hear is sent to a preamplifier before it goes to a guitar amplifier, this is done by a built-in equalizer with volume and tone controls. These equalizers can control up to six frequencies.

Acoustic guitar packages give you an acoustic guitar along with an a guitar amplifier, and all the additional guitar accessories you might need. Keep one thing in mind even with cheap electric guitars you get what you pay for, meaning the more money you spend the better the equalizer. Along with the better equalizer you will find the inlay work will be more detailed. When you compare acoustic guitars to electric guitars you will see for yourself the added workmanship in the bindings and inlays.

The Other Electric Guitar

Joe Miranda September 30, 2011

Acoustic guitars or (acoustic electric guitar) as they are sometimes called, don’t get the respect that they deserve. When asked, people just starting to play guitar most often opt ro play electric guitars. I guess it’s because electric guitars have more of an association with the bands in rock and roll.

There are some people who don’t think it’s cool to play acoustic guitars when actually it’s just the opposite. If it’s not cool than why do all the major artists enjoy performing their songs with acoustics. There is a show on the radio every Sunday morning called The Acoustic Storm that does just that, features artists doing some of their songs unplugged. Artists you wouldn’t normally associate with acoustic guitars do their songs acoustically. The acoustic guitar showcases their talent.

As far as the guitar itself acoustic guitar packages are available just like electric guitar packages. Even with cheap acoustic guitars their are levels of workmanship, the more you are willing to spend the better the on board equalizer is along with the intricate inlays that you won’t find on any electric guitar. New York Pro Acoustic guitars give you a five band equalizer along with great inlays on the body of the guitar, and the frets.

The Other Electric Guitar

Joe Miranda April 17, 2011

Did you know there was another electric guitar that doesn’t look like an electric guitar. In fact it looks just like an acoustic guitar, and that is because it is an acoustic guitar.

There are acoustic guitars that have a pick-up built into the bridge that is attached to an equalizer powered by a 9v battery with a chord jack. I have seen equalizers of three band on up depending on how much you want to spend. Along with different equalizers the degree of workmanship you get is is in relationship to how much you want to spend on your acoustic electric guitar. For added value you can also find them bundled in what is called acoustic guitar packages.

Let’s Talk Acoustically

Joe Miranda January 24, 2011

This is for all the electric guitars enthusiasts out there who have never even looked at an acoustic guitar with designs on purchasing one. I’m not saying to get rid of your electric guitar, I’m just saying that there’s room for both.

The sound you get when playing an acoustic guitar is unmatched by that of an electric guitar, and there are certain songs that cry out for to be played acoustically, just as there are songs that need to be played with an electric.

Another reason to consider acoustic guitars is for their beauty, have you taken a look at them lately? The workmanship on these guitars is unlike what you will find on an electric guitar, from the soft wood tones to the contrasting bindings, to the inlay work around the sound hole there’s no denying these things are works of art. Don’t forget the fact that each one of these acoustic electric guitars comes with an on board of either 3, 4, or 5 band equalizer so when you purchase an acoustic guitar package you will be all set to go.

Less Filling, Sounds Great

Joe Miranda December 21, 2010

Less filling, sounds great almost sounds like a beer commercial but it isn’t, it has to do with electric guitars. The majority of people that learn and want to play guitar choose electric guitars over acoustic or acoustic electric guitars.

Of the electric guitars the solid body is the most chosen and preferred. One guitar that gets overlooked is the jazz guitar or jazz box as they are sometimes referred to. It’s hollow body is lightweight as compared to an electric guitar. The archtop guitar is just one of the jazz styled guitars there is to choose from. An example of this would be the Gibson L4,  another example is the Chicago Jazz made by Glen Burton Guitars, it can be listed under cheap electric guitars because it won’t set you back thousands of dollars. I have these archtops referred to as having a sensitive sound. The next time you in the market for a new guitar check them out.

You Can Have This One Without The Other

Joe Miranda November 28, 2010

Electric guitars and electric bass guitars are great instruments. There’s just one catch, you can’t play an electric guitar without having a guitar amplifier, and if you are planning to play a bass guitar make sure you use a bass amplifier.

Luckily you can purchase either one in what is called electric guitar packages and bass guitar packages, instead of getting each piece separately. Acoustic guitars are a bit different, to play an acoustic guitar you don’t need an amplifier unless you are going to be playing a gig, then you would need an acoustic electric guitar that has a built in pick-up and can be played with or without an amplifier. This too can be found in acoustic guitar packages.

It’s My First Choice

Joe Miranda September 22, 2010

When people tell me they want to start playing guitar and ask me, should I get an electric guitar or an acoustic guitar? My answer to them is to go with the acoustic electric guitar as a first choice.

This choice holds true especially if your not sure if you are going to like playing the guitar. Besides the fact that it can be play with or without a guitar amplifier it is my opinion that by spending a little bet of money you will get an acoustic guitar that is exquisitely finished. When you are looking at acoustic guitars take time to look at the inlays from the boarder to the sound hole to the fret, you don’t find that on electric guitars. Don’t overlook purchasing an acoustic guitar packages, with it you will get everything you need including a guitar amplifier to increase your playing options.
