A Little Maintenance Goes A Long Way

Joe Miranda August 17, 2010

Do you own an electric guitar? How about a bass guitar or an acoustic guitar? Other than tuning it when is the last time you did some maintenance on it.

Hopefully your guitar package came with some guitar polish and cloths. If it did when is the last time you used them. Do yourself a favor and set up a regular routine, and I’m not saying everyday or every week, but at least every month. Wipe down your guitar, this will remove all the acids left behind by your fingers and will make your guitar strings last longer. Learn how to check your guitar for tonation. This is when the note played on an open string is the same as that on the 12th fret. Guitar packages come with gig bags and stands, use them to store your guitar, don’t leave it lying around so it can get damaged.

It’s In There

Joe Miranda August 13, 2010

Electric guitar packages are a great idea because like the title says, it’s in there. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out, or a seasoned veteran playing an electric guitar what you get with an electric guitar package is everything you need.

Oh by the way if your preference is bass guitar or acoustic guitar don’t feel left out, there are bass guitar packages as well as acoustic guitar packages. Do you want to play guitar, it’s in there. Do want an guitar or bass amplifier, it’s in there, how about a digital tuner, gig bag, and a guitar stand, they are in there too. How about an added bonus of a guitar polish and cloths to keep the appearance of your guitar looking new, it’s also in there.

Get Off The Fence

Joe Miranda July 29, 2010

How many people are thinking of starting a musical career by playing the guitar? One of the things they are not sure of is what type of guitar to start off with.

My feelings about that is, acoustic guitar packages are just the thing to get you off the fence. Not only are these acoustic guitars a thing of beauty, they can be played with or without a guitar amplifier. The more bucks you have to pluck down on one of these guitars the better the finish will be, along with a better equalizer, not to mention the appliques. You will find exceptional appliques around the sound hole, and also take notice of the binding all around the guitar.

When you lump together a guitar accessories like, a guitar amplifier, guitar stand, gig bag, electronic tuner, guitar strap, guitar cable, guitar polish with cloths, along with your choice of acoustic guitar it makes your choice a no brain-er, acoustic guitar packages it is.

Perfect Pitch

Joe Miranda July 17, 2010

I am very fortunate because in one of my first bands there was a guy who played tenor saxophone, while I played bass guitar, and this guy had perfect pitch. When I say perfect pitch, I mean perfect pitch, you can ask this guy to stand on the other side of the room with his back turned towards you and my brother who was on keyboards would play a chord, this guy would not only tell you the notes, he would also tell you what succession they were played.

Now back in the 60’s I used a pitch pipe to tune my bass, and inevitably when you play sometimes you go out of key, having this guy was a blessing, because whenever we would play a gig and you would go out of tune he would assist on tuning you up, which made the task very easy.

Not everyone is going to run across someone like this, that’s why you need to find bass guitar packages that include an electronic tuner to help you tune your bass or electric guitar.

Guitar Packages?

Joe Miranda July 8, 2010

Most people being new to the world of electric guitars will probably say, what is guitar packages? What are guitar packages all about? After finding out about them they will say, Where can I get one?

Guitar packages can be found in electric guitar packages, bass guitar packages, and even acoustic guitar packages. Besides getting the guitar of your choice, along with the guitar amplifier of your choice you will also get a gig bag, guitar stand, guitar tuner, guitar polish and rags, and of course guitar strap and guitar chord. The prices can range according to how much you want to spend. It’s that unusual for guitar players to have more than one guitar package, like an electric and acoustic guitar package.

If it’s value you are looking for look search for guitar packages, electric guitar packages, bass guitar packages, or acoustic guitar packages on the Internet.

You’re Still A Little Off

Joe Miranda June 18, 2010

How many times have you picked up your electric guitar to play, either alone or with a band and found you were off? You grab your digital tuner, tune it up, only to find that it still sounds off and now you don’t know what to do about it. This same thing applies to bass guitars also.

What you have just experienced is something called intonation, but don’t worry all of us have had it at some time. What is intonation you ask, well it is when the note played on a string in the open position is the same note played at the 12th fret.

It is really quite easy to adjust for, you will need a digital tuner. Tune the first string as you would normally, than check the string at the 12th fret, if it is not the same it needs to be adjusted. Your guitars bridge has screws that connect it to the saddle, if your note was flat turn the screw to move the saddle towards the fretboard. If your note was sharp turn it away from the fretboard. Don’t forget to release the tension on the string before you make any adjustments. After you have completed the first string do the same thing on each of the remaining strings.

These guitar packages take the guess work out of all the things you need, and also provide you with things that you wouldn’t think of purchasing for yourself. The Best With The Best

Joe Miranda June 5, 2010

When you find legendary guitarist Jeff Beck playing his Fender stratocaster electric guitar you will almost always find an outstanding bass guitar being played by Tal Wikenfeld. It is my opinion that no two guitar players compliment each other better that these two.

Jeff achieves his sound not with the use of effect pedals, but rather by using his fingers and tremolo bar. His instrumental version of The Beatles “A Day In The Life” is both a unique and breathtaking example of taking an already great song and adding your own twist to it that makes it you own. While playing Tal is right there with him playing a bass line that is rivaled by Paul McCartney on the original.

Tal can be seen playing a Fender Jazz Bass look-a-like. Her custom bass guitar is a high end bass made by Sadowsky Guitars Limited.

Luxury or Necessity

Joe Miranda April 26, 2010

You just purchased one of the great electric guitars, that are available on the Internet or in your local music store. You didn’t get anything else with it because you didn’t think it was necessary at the time.

When you received your guitar and opened it up the first thing you noticed is you have no place to set it down, like a guitar stand. You also notice if you want to take it anywhere you must take the box that it came in, unlike a gig bag if you had one. You then realize that to play your brand new guitar it needs to be tuned. Now I don’t know about you but I don’t have perfect pitch like some people are gifted with so in order to tune your guitar you need a tuner. Most importantly you discover if you purchased a solid body guitar you can only hear it when played through a guitar amplifier.

By now I guess you see what I’m getting at, If you purchase an electric guitar package you would have received everything you need plus more all for a fraction more than it would have cost to bu everything alone.

The Right Amplifier

Joe Miranda March 25, 2010

Getting the right guitar amplifier is as personal as getting the right electric guitar. One of the things you must ask yourself is, Where am I going to be playing. Another question is, How are you going to be using the amp.

If you live in a small apartment, or if you will playing your guitar in your room a 10 watt amplifier with a 6″ speaker is more than enough to deliver a good sound without someone else in the house getting angry with you. If you plan on playing outside the confines of your room, let’s say in a band, you might want to take the next step and get either a 20 or 30 watt guitar amplifier. While the decibels goes up slightly the larger speakers, ( 8″ & 10″ respectively ) will make them sound even louder.

One thing to consider is as you increase the size of your amplifer the weight of it is also going to increaase, this is important because you are the one that will be carrying it around along with your guitar and the rest of your guitar accessories.

As you go up in size the amplifiers will have more features also, like one with a built-in reverb on it. Keep in mind if you play bass guitar you need a bass amplifier. These amplifiers have speakers that are beefed up to handle bass tones.
